Wedding napkins at the ready for cupcake tasting
Rather than the traditional three-tiered fruit wedding cake, cupcakes could be considered as a fun alternative by brides on a budget, it has been claimed.
Indeed, wrapping individual cup cakes in wedding napkins could make a change from dicing up one large cake and allowing guests to help themselves.
Baiju Patel, director of Cupcake Avenue, said cup cakes have "licked off" in terms of popularity over the past five years, describing the trend - which has always been popular in the US - as "crazy".
"Cupcakes are a great alternative to a wedding cake. You can have a tower and you can just go and help yourself rather than have a massive slab of cake. It's a nice way of doing it," he added.
And it is not just for weddings that hotel and restaurant staff may find themselves laying a selection of cup cakes on to tablecloths for, but parties, baby showers and christenings too.
Indeed, according to the Daily Mail, Victoria Beckham was given a year's supply of cupcakes for her 34th birthday by supermodel Heidi Klum.
