Put out the wholesale towels as staycations here to stay
It would appear that the staycation phenomena that sprung up across the UK last year as people looked to save their money and still have a break is set to continue in 2010.
Indeed, hotel and bed and breakfast owners may wish to stock up on their wholesale towels, bedding, restaurant supplies and a host of tasty, local produce now, as they could be set to see an influx of guests come the summer months.
Research by VisitEngland has revealed that 19 per cent of Britons are planning an overnight trip in England, up from 16 per cent in 2009 and 14 per cent in 2008.
Furthermore, 26 per cent said they were planning at least one overnight trip away from home in the two weeks after being surveyed.
Jenny McGee, head of strategy and engagement for VisitEngland, said one attraction that may see people enjoying a stay in the UK is the weather.
While Britain is typically famed for its grey clouds, Ms McGee suggested it is an all-weather destination, meaning there will be something to entertain holidaymakers come rain or shine.
