Every year, over 100,000 visitors flock to the Great Central Railway line, it has been claimed.
Indeed, holiday accommodation owners may wish to take advantage of the site's popularity by
stocking up on hotel supplies, after Martin Peters, chief executive of Leicester Shire Promotions, said the line was a "major" tourist attraction.
He was commenting after a press briefing given by Mr Peters, Sir Peter Soulsby, MP for Leicester South, Richard Tilden Smith, director of Great Central Railway, and Tom Ingal, reporter at BBC and director of Great Central Railway on plans to develop the line.
It is hoped that the two sections of railway could be joined again by rebuilding a viaduct.
"The project would considerably raise the national profile of the railway and further strengthen the history and heritage offer for visitors to the destination, showcased at many museums and visitor attractions across the city and county," Mr Peters said.
Britons planning to ride the rail as part of a holiday experience could find its tablecloths are piled high with the finest produce, as Mr Peters explained travellers can enjoy a first class dining experience.
